This new transfer station was built in 2012 in roughly the same location as the original "temporary" facility after years of unsuccessful attempts at finding a better location. One of the principal impediments to using this as the site for a permanent facility had been the refusal of the State and the Valley Railroad to grant permission to cross the railroad r/w that separates it from from 154. Finally an agreement was reached conditioned on an agreement by the Town that it would construct an expensive railroad crossing if and when the r/w was ever used for rail traffic again (it is currently unused and unusable for that purpose and has been so for close to 50 years).
