Gustav Emil Broms (1849-1903) used to be the main share-holder and the head of the Gällivare iron mining company in Northern Sweden. He built the Stockholm house in the heart of Östermalm as a living place for his wife and 5 children.
Broms House was built from 1898 to 1900 by entrepreneur E.W. Berggren, Erik Lallerstedt and Ludvig Peterson being the architects.
In 1921, it became property of the French State and subsequently the French Embassy in 1947. Still today, it is used as the residence of the French Ambassador, the chancery services that used to occupy the Northern wing moved to Kommendörsgatan 13 in 1997.
