Here a manhole leads to an underground vault containing a spring. This is believed to be one of two springs that once existed on the grounds of the Mansions Hotel. (One had a font located inside the hotel, while the other, the "Mansions Soda Iron Spring", had its own pavilion which was later incorporated into the Manitou Springs City Hall. It is unclear which of the two fonts was supplied by this spring.)

The Mansions Springs were drilled springs, drilled for the hotel circa 1909.
