Former People’s Friendship Arch (Ukrainian: Арка Дружби Народів, literally 'friendship arch') was dedicated to the unification of Russia and Ukraine.

The Arch was constructed in 1982 by sculptor A. Skoblikov and architect I. Ivanov and others. It is a huge, 50 metres in diameter, rainbow-shaped arch, made of titanium.

Underneath the Friendship Arch there were two statues: one which is made of bronze and depicts a Russian and Ukrainian workers holding up the Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples and the other is made from granite and depicts the participants of the Pereiaslavska Rada of 1654.
The arch had folk name – "Yarmo" (Ukrainian: Ярмо, means 'Yoke').

On 14.5.2022, according to the decision of the Kyiv City Council, the arch received its modern name – "Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People".
The statue of Russian and Ukrainian workers was dismantled before, on 26.4.2022.

There is a viewing deck there where most of the east bank can be viewed, Troeshchina and towards the north of the city, Podil and Obolon.
