3 main passenger services run from here - the Overland (Adelaide - Melbourne) the Ghan (Adelaide - Darwin) and it's roughly the halfway point got the Indian-Pacific (Sydney - Perth). Per week each way there are three Overlands, two IP's and two Ghan's.
To the west side of the station there is a section of double track which is where freight trains pass each other as nearly all rail out of town is single track.
