This neighborhood green space was saved twice from a construction project by popular vote, first in 1991 and again in 1993. The city authorities and building promoters eventually gave up and, though the land had been acquired by the city in 1964, the park finally began appearing in green on official maps in 2002.
The Vermont neighborhood got its name from the "maison Vermont" built by Antoine-Edouard Aubert (1820-1877), a member of Geneva's Grand Council. He named the house in honor of his American wife, who came from... the state of Vermont.
