Alternative Names: Whitestone Range; Black Hill; Sheriffmuir; Harperstone. A 20TH CENTURY MILITARY TRAINING SITE. This rifle range was situated on the E side of the A9 trunk road immediately S of Shanraw Cottages. The butts and firing points still survive. This range was forced to close in the anti-gun hysteria post Dunblane massacre because it is within earshot of a school in Dunblane (not that school). This was the home range of the Stirling Gun Club of which T Hamilton was a member. Nearby is trace evidence of another four lane rifle range on the W flank of Black Hill, perhaps dating to about 1907.
