The New Market (Neuer Markt) is a place in the center of old Potsdam, one of the best preserved baroque squares in Europe. It has a basic rectangular shape of about 50 by 40 meters.
Under Frederick William I, the New Market was given its characteristic apearence according to plans of Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff. The Cabinet House (Kabinettshaus) which was built in 1753, was the birth place of King Frederick William III.
