St Andrew's Church, Farnham (Farnham)

United Kingdom / England / Farnham / Upper Church Lane
 church, Grade II Listed (UK)

Among Surrey's most important buildings, listed by English Heritage at Grade 1 and has a heritage going back to the 12th Century when Thomas a Becket was Archbishop of Canterbury. Like most churches it underwent drastic changes in Victorian times and, not to be outdone, the powers-that-be in 2006 saw fit to "update" the interior for the 21st century by removing ancient pews (sold on eBay) and adding modern facilities.

Comments

  • Outside the porch is the grave of the great William Cobbett, writer and reformer. Too true about the despoiling of the interior, though.
  • Supposedly one of the more haunted churches in the country if you're interested in that sort of thing.
