Oscar Wilde Statue (Dublin)

Ireland / Dublin / Dublin

Danny Osborne's statue of Oscar Wilde, which took two and a half years to complete, was commissioned by Guinness Ireland Group. The work's colour, texture and durability, combined with the vision to produce a work of outdoor art to stand the test of time, involved collaboration with geologists, quarry owners, glass workers and foundries. That the likeness is remarkable is not surprising as much of the sculpture's head was modelled from Merlin Holland, Wilde's grandson, who unveiled the statue in October 1997.
