Overton Park is a 342-acre public park located in Midtown Memphis, Tennessee. The park grounds contain the Memphis Zoo, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Memphis College of Art, a 9-hole golf course, Rainbow Lake, Veterans Plaza, the Greensward, and other features.

The Old Forest Arboretum of Overton Park, one of the few remaining old growth forests in Tennessee, is a natural arboretum with labeled trees along trails.

  • In fron of the zoo there are these animal silhouettes. They're made of white concrete, about 9inches thick and life size. Now there's a sign that says "do not climb" but there didn't used to be. I was the only person I ever saw climb to the top of the elephant, and it wasn't easy. You could sit up there for half an hour without ever being noticed by an adult. Kids still look around, but grown ups don't think there's anything worth seeing above eyelevel... that and the tendency to only see what we expect to see.
