Carolina se conoce como "La Tierra de Gigantes" (tierra de los gigantes), en honor a uno de sus habitantes: Don Felipe Birriel, quien fue el hombre más alto en la historia de Puerto Rico, con una altura de 2.413 metros de confirmar o siete pies once pulgadas (7 '11 ")

Carolina también se conoce como "El Pueblo de los Tumba Brazos" (brazo de la ciudad los piratas informáticos), porque en los viejos tiempos, se dice que la gente resuelve sus conflictos con un duelo. Lorenzo Vizcarrondo de Carolina fundada en 1857. Nombre original de la ciudad era de Trujillo Bajo. Se adquirió un nuevo nombre, cuando don Gaspar Martínez, la persona que donó el terreno para establecer el municipio, pidió que la ciudad se llamó Carolina en honor de su hija Carolina de San Juan.

    Carolina (Spanish pronunciation: [kaɾoˈlina]) is a city located in the northern part of Puerto Rico, a bless to the Atlantic Ocean; it lies north of Gurabo and Juncos; east of Trujillo Alto and San Juan; and west of Canóvanas and Loíza. Carolina is spread over 12 wards plus Carolina Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Although Carolina is not technically part of San Juan, it is a short distance from San Juan. Along with San Juan, Bayamón, Guaynabo, Cataño, Toa Baja and Trujillo Alto, it is considered to form part of the island's metropolitan area. The town was founded by Spanish colonists in 1816 as Trujillo Bajo ("lower Trujillo"), along with its counterpart Trujillo Alto after Trujillo, Spain. In 1857 it was renamed to San Fernando de la Carolina, later shortened to Carolina, after Charles II of Spain.[1] The city is known as "Tierra de Gigantes" (Land of Giants), not only for well-known Carolina resident Don Felipe Birriel González (who was 7'11"), but also in honor of other people from Carolina, such as the poet Julia de Burgos and baseball player Roberto Clemente. Carolina was the home of Jesús T. Piñero, the first Puerto Rican to be appointed as governor by the United States government.
