If you've driven on this section of Route 26, you have riden on the back of a glacial esker!... left behind by a glacier here about 11,500 years ago. This one apparently runs from near Route 11 all the way to Sabathday Lake, a distance of about five miles.

World famous Poland Spring water is drawn from from this glacially carved valley.
