Mount P'orak

P'orak (Armenian: Փորակ) or Pora (Azerbaijani: Pora dağı) is a stratovolcano located in the Vardenis volcanic ridge.

Geography.
The foot of the volcano is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level an the top is 3046.3 m. It lies about 20 km (12 mi) southeast of Lake Sevan and the volcanic field spans in northeast of Armenian Highlands geographical region at the eastern border of RA. The cooled lava is distributed on all sides of the volcano.

Name origin.
Armenian name P'orak means "Belly". Azerbaijani name is Pora which is altered Armenian one.

History.
P'orak is also a name of a sub-district which was in ancient and medieval eras part of Historical Armenia's Vayots-Dzor gavar that was in turn part of Syunik province. In 1920 was included in Armenian SSR, but after the 1936 was included to Azerbaijani SSR. In period 1993 to 2020 the mountain layed at border of Armenia and unrecognized Republic of Artsakh, but since 2020 Azerbaijan took control over the territory.
