BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), television studio, do not draw title

Roath Lock (Porth y Rhath) is a television production facility located in the wider Porth Teigr area of Cardiff Bay. The studios house BBC drama productions including Doctor Who, Casualty and Pobol y Cwm (a welsh language soap drama broadcast on S4C). The centre topped out on 20 February 2011 and filming for such productions is expected to commence in autumn of the same year.

In just 13 months, 175,000 square foot of HD-ready studios have been constructed and fitted out to provide a permanent, purpose-built home to four flagship BBC dramas – Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, Doctor Who and Upstairs Downstairs – as well as new productions in the future.

This is the quickest BBC build of its size ever and marks an exciting new chapter for drama production in Wales. BBC1’s Casualty began its move from Bristol to its new set in Cardiff and by Christmas 2011 the facility will be full with 500 to 600 people working on site.

The facility is located on a development site known as Porth Teigr (Tiger Bay Dock), which also includes a proposed 40,000sq ft digital media centre.
