Built in 1930, this 20-acre facility was built solely for growing roses. Zieger florists shut down the plant in approximately 2005, and it has been vacant ever since. In 2013, plans to raze the facility and turn the property into a 55 and older housing development were approved, but delayed due to the discovery of contaminated soil on the property, the product of decades of chemicals used in rose-growing. In the summer of 2015, cleanup of the soil and demolition of the facility began. As of December 2015 this phase of the project is still ongoing.
