The Muenchinger-King was a landmark in Newport, owned since 1845 by David King, the first president of The Newport Historical Society, who gradually added on to it over the following decades. David King gave the property to his sister Sarah Gibbs King (Mrs. William Birckhead) before 1893. She sold the property In 1903 to Gustave and Amanda Muenchinger, and they turned it in to an exclusive hotel.
