Mount Gavazan (Armenian: Գավազան լեռ, Azerbaijani: Göyəzən dağı) is a mountain in northwest of today's Qazakh Rayon of Azerbaijan. It is located in the vicinity of the villages Abbasbeyli and Alpout, and rises 857.9 metres above the sea level. Ruins of medieval Armenian fortress of Gavazan from the 14th century were found near the mountain. Since the 1936 Qasakh district of Armenian SSR was separated from it and attached to Azerbaijani SSR, according to claim of "brotherly Turkey" to USSR. "Gavazan" in Armenian language means "Pikestaff" as mount Gavazan is really standing tall and resemples a pikestaff. In Soviet Azerbaijan this fortress and mount called Goyazan to liken this Armenian toponym under Turkic transcription.
