  • Why passengers and local people should unite in demanding for Sealdah - Kharagpur & Santragachi - Dankuni local trains --- (i) People across huge area to be benefited --- Social out look will broaden with the removal of feeling of isolation from the people of adjoining areas ( having very poor or no communication) situated around the proposed links such as Anandanagar , Joypur , Bhattanagar , Kona , Baltikuri , Jagadishpur , Chamrail , Bankra , Pakuria , Ek - sara , Salap , Makardah , Domjur etc. as they would be having direct access to Dumdum Jn: and Sealdah Railway Stn. without having to go through the nightmare of traveling via Howrah Rly. Stn. Further these rail connectivity will provide safe and convenient mode of transport and as well make it easier to reach a place of religious importance , Dakhineshwar. (ii) Congested areas can be relieved of congestion --- The congested areas of Benaras Road , Howrah - Amta Road will be relieved of congestion and the sparsely populated areas can be developed . This proposed railway link will definitely contribute to industrial development by ensuring mobility of labour , speedy distribution of finished products , transportation of raw materials promoting growth of industries , price stabilization of commodities , development in trade thereby increasing the earnings and standard of living of people in the Industrial District of Howrah and thus help the district regain its lost status of Sheffield of India . (iii) Solving the unemployment problem ----- With the state of West Bengal reeling under the burden of severe unemployment , this proposed railway link will not only contribute to industrial development but also generate jobs in public sector due to the expansion of railway network -- an effort in the direction of providing employment -- trying to solve the unemployment problem at least . (iv) Increase in National wealth --- Railway connectivity is related to overall development of the locality concerned through which it passes . Land values will increase due to development ultimately resulting to increase in national wealth . (v) Establishment of a vital railway link --- The two proposed railway links as above will connect Dumdum Airport , Sealdah , Kolkata , Chord section and as well as Main section of Eastern Railway with Kharagpur on the South Eastern Railway along with the port city of Haldia with investment being minimum thus subscribing to the techno - economic advantages of cost saving in transportation , being energy efficient , environment friendly and above all efficient use of existing railway network and land as well . Kolkata West International City being developed just adjacent to the Kona Rly. station will be having direct link with Dumdum Airport , Kolkata , Sealdah , and other parts of the state . (vi) Reduction of load on Howrah station --- A lot of commuters from places situated on the Chord line of Eastern Railway Howrah Division have to travel via Howrah Rly. Stn while going to and returning from their work places situate on Howrah - Kharagpur line on the South Eastern Railway . Similar hassle have to be faced by commuters on Howrah - Kharagpur line on the South Eastern Railway while going to and returning from their work places situate on Chord line of Eastern Railway Howrah Division . The railway links would not only relieve the commuters performing the circuitous to & fro journey but above all would reduce the load on Howrah Rly. Stn. making central administration more effective and easy . (vii) Contributing to development of National mentality ----- These railway links will definitely have the political advantage of contributing to development of national mentality in respect of a huge section of people of Bengal .
