This is what remains of the Pennsylvania Railroad's Barracks yard. It served as both a freight and layover yard for passenger trains terminating at the Trenton train station. In its later years, the yard was downsized significantly and only used as a layover yard for NJ Transit passenger trains terminating at Trenton.

The freight portion of the yard was abandoned (but not removed) by Conrail around 1980 and the remaining active and electrified portion of the yard was removed around 2005 after NJ Transit replaced it with its Morrisville layover yard, which was carved out of the former hump yard in the ex-PRR Morrisville freight yard.

In 1930, Barracks Yard marked the northern terminus of electrification prior to its extension to New York in 1933.
