Origin of this settlement
No physical or narrative traces about the origin of this settlement can be found
those can lead to concrete evidences of time when human started to settle here in this
village. However as the development pattern and location of the village suggest it must
have become a permanent settlement in medieval era. Marks of a Citadel and irregular
street pattern are particular features of medieval towns in subcontinent and the entire
world. The last vestige of citadel has now vanished with the current development but
narrative stories suggest that there must have a high mound over which first people
started to live. Highest central level of the village provides the clue to a citadel that would have once existed here.
This small population gradually grew to become of substantial importance because of availability of water and other resources for which people migrated to this adding to its population and strength.
There can be another possible reason that would have leaded to the development
of this village but here again no recorded history is not available regarding this narration.
It is said that during the reign of Sher Shah Suri a road linking Amritsar to Gujranwala
was laid and as a tradition of Surid dynasty caravan saray and office of Daak were
constructed all along the roads. This laying of a grand road kicked off the possibility of
many small settlements along this road and some poepole narrate that this village also
came into existence along this road near a carvan sarai and a daak post. The road that Suri laid is still present and now has been asphalted connecting many small villages along it. Important from them are Ahdian, Lahorianwali, Kot Ahdian, Sidhanwali etc.
Both of the above mentioned traditions are accepted though cannot be proved by
any written records. However it must have been a settlement already existing before
laying of this road but importance of this grew after the road as this village falls in themid of this long road. The Daak Post that is said to have been constructed outside of thisvillage is totally vanished and no traces of it other than a small mound can be found andwe cannot say with confidence that this mound is place where once daak post existed.
Because of the lack of written history we cannot reach any concret conclusion about the
origin of this settlement.
Whatever the origin of this settlement was it had developed on a raised mud
citadel and water was in abundance here. A well now called Kacha Kho (unbaked well) is
still present there indicative of the availability of water in those times. This well was
made of mud bricks that point leads to the fact that it must have been centuries old. The
detailed discussion of water sources and there location in this settlement will come in
later parts of the report.
