Built in 1812 at the height of the Napoleonic Wars, this was the former home of Lord Lewis Tregonwell, founder of Bournemouth. It is the town's oldest building. A Dorset landowner, Tregonwell was charged with defending the local coastline against French invasion and liked the area so much, he built the property which has since become the Royal Exeter hotel, as a seaside home.
