Also known as Moanataiari this is mostly reclaimed land at the mouth of the Waiotahi Creek.
There are concerns about the soil upon which this area was constructed being contaminated with toxic materials, especially arsenic. The history of gold-mining in this area has left a considerable legacy of contamination.
Moanataiari/Thames North is built on land reclaimed from the Firth of Thames. The area was filled with mine tailings, mine waste, and clean fill subdivided in the 1960s and houses built in the 1970s.
