museum, house, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, Georgian (architecture), 1710s construction
The Warner House built in 1716, was the governor's mansion in the mid-18th century when Portsmouth was the state capital. After a time as a private home, it has been open to the public since the 1930s. This stately brick structure with graceful Georgian architectural elements is a favorite among architectural historians for it's wall murals (said to be the oldest murals still in place in the U.S.), early wall marbleizing, and original white pine paneling. www.warnerhouse.org/
