Al Rolla Square (Sharjah)

United Arab Emirates / as-Sariqah / Sharjah
 park, historic town square

The Rolla Square is a historical site in Sharjah and was named as such after the planting of the first banyan tree (locally known as Rolla tree) in the 1800s.

The tree lasted for nearly 150 years until 1978, and families from Dubai, Ajman and other emirates would gather near the Rolla tree and use it as a meeting point for Eid, National Day, meetings and other special occasions.

Al Rolla Square comprises a total of 36,664 square metres.

Al Rolla Square is currently being developed into a park equipped with fountains and lagoons that will be open to the public mid-2012.
