Dodong Seowon Confucian Academy is one of the five main Confucian academies in Korea, along with Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, Oksan Seowon Confucian Academy, Sosu Seowon Confucian Academy, and Dosan Seowon Confucian Academy.

Dodong Seowon Confucian Academy was built in 1568. During the Japanese Invasion of Korea, it was destroyed by a fire. It was reconstructed in its current location of Dodong-ri in 1605 and was named Borodong Seowon Confucian Academy.

In 1607, it was given the name Confucian Dodong Seowon Confucian Academy by the king.

The most noticeable thing about Dodong Seowon Confucian Academy is its earthen wall, an assembly hall called Jungjeongdang, Suwollo, and a four hundred year old ginko tree. The earthen wall featured exquisitely patterned roof tiles and is the only earthen wall in Korea to be designated a national treasure.
