The site is known Orria Pithinna in written sources for the presence of a Camaldolese monastic foundation, since 1205.In previously the area was affected by an aristocratic domus, belonging to the family mentioned in the Torah and De Condaghe of San Michele di Salvennor . In the fourteenth century, the area is occupied by a rural village called Orria Pithinna, perhaps depopulated around the middle of the century, following the foundation of the castle of Chiaramonte and the state of war in the territory between the Doria and the Crown of Aragon. the study of medieval villages abandoned the territory of Chiaramonti is currently the subject of a joint research program between the municipal authorities and the Department of the University of Sassari (teaching of Medieval Archaeology) with the approval of the Archaeological Superintendence of Sassari and Nuoro.
