This house was built for the Reverend Dr. Joseph Bellamy, a prominent Congregational minister, preacher and educator of 18th century New England. Bellamy opened a theology school in his home, reported to be the first of its kind in the country. Bellamy is considered an important figure in the First Great Awakening, a Christian revival movement of Great Britain and its colonies in the 1730s and 1740s.
