The Ipanema Settlement Project was created by the Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform - INCRA in 1995. But since the May 16, 1992 some 900 families occupied the area, four days before the creation of Ipanema National Forest by the then President, Fernando Collor de Melo. The settlement is divided into 150 lots, the same amount of benefit families.
