The three and one half storey, "L" shaped Post Office building was designed by architect Pierre Gauvreau in the Second Empire Style. Completed in 1873, major modifications, including the addition of a cupola added in 1913 give the building a distinct Beaux Arts appearance.
In 1984, the building was named after Louis S St Laurant, Canada`s 12th Prime Minister who served between 1948 and 1957.
