Eglinton is bounded by the locality of Yanchep in the north, the localities of Yanchep and Carabooda in the east, the locality of Alkimos to the south and the Indian Ocean to the west. The population as of 2020 was 3,654. Eglinton is a suburb within the City Of Wanneroo LGA.
Eglinton is approximately 44 kilometres (27 miles) north of Perth's business district.

Eglinton was approved in February 1974 as a locality name and is named so after the barque 'Eglinton', which was wrecked on rocks, which now also bear it's name, in 1852. Eglinton Rocks are located off the coast adjacent to the suburb.
