Located in the site where the Preaching Friars had built their ancient church dedicated to St. Mathew in 1243, this church became the church of court when the Este family came to Modena and made it the capital of their duchy. In 1620 the church was linked to the castle by an overpass. The ancient building was demolished in 1707-1708 for building the current structure. turismo.comune.modena.it/
