This courtyard contained the former SS garages as well as a room in which in 1939 and 1940 dead German and Austrian inmates were laid out for their relatives. To avoid any doubt as to the official cause of death, the room was very dimly lit and the bodies could not be viewed from close up. In summer 1941 the camp inmates gathered here and underwent mass disinfection following an epidemic of spotted fever.
