Tangut: Eji Nai, Marco Polo's Edzina. Old Mongolian: Qara Qota. Chinese: Heicheng. Modern Mongolian: Har Höt. Ruins of a fortified city along the Silk Road founded by the Xi Xia in the 11th century (1032), conquered by the Mongols in the 13th century (1226), and by Ming China in the 14th century (1372). The city was subsequently abandoned, possibly due to water shortages.
