Severinstor (Cologne)

Germany / Nordrhein-Westfalen / Cologne / Chlodwigplatz
 interesting place, city gate

The Severinstor is one of the only remaining parts of the medieval walled fortifications of Cologne. Much of the wall was demolished to make way for the Ring, leaving very few remnants behind. At Severinstor, one of only three remaining gates and gatehouses to the city remains on Chlodwigplatz. The turreted building was constructed in 1180 and is a symbol of the southern district of Cologne. The interior of the gatehouse can only be visited if hired out.
