Named for a series of four spring fed trout ponds along the north side.
Originally Spring Brook ran southwest into the East Branch of the Owego Creek
and did not connect with the creek on the east.
Opened to the public as an amusement park and picnic grounds in June of 1870.
The ponds were originally about 6.5 acres. They were said to be one of the
best parks in the state at the time.
