Whitaker Woods Recreation Area

Wonderful, well used nature area only a few minutes walk from downtown North Conway NH. Used on a regular basis for running, mountain biking, walking and cross-country skiing back when we used to have snow. The local running club, The White Mountain Milers www.whitemountainmilers.com meets here weekly on Tuesdays at 5:00 pm for a run. In the summer, it is a well attended and more formal weekly race series. Short-sighted "powers that be" plan to bulldoze a swath down through the middle of it, and pave it for a bypass of the village. Clearly they have never taken the time to walk through Whitaker Woods. :(

  • It is a very nice wooded park and should remain so. It's a fine place to take my dog for a nice walk and enjoy the outdoors. I can recall when I was home from the service on leave I took my children to the same area of the woods I used to use for sledding. They loved it and would talk about it many years later when we were in europe pining away for a good place to go sledding. It would be just tragic for those short sighted boobs that run the town to run a road through the place.
