Kales Fortress (Ierapetra)

A fortress built in 1626 to protect the harbour from Arab pirates (although, according to a local myth, it was built by the Genoese pirate Pescatore in 1212 as a base for his pirate operations). True or not, Kales has become the town's hallmark ever since.
