A country house museum that is home to 'Charge!': the Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) and the Light Dragoons. Other exhibits in the hall include glass, ceramics, paintings, furnishings and toys.

Originally built early in the 18th century, the present hall was enlarged mid-18th Century by the architect John Carr. The surrounding 70 acres of parkland were landscaped and feature lakes, waterfalls, follies and views.

The house was sold to Barnsley Council in 1951 and opened as a Museum in 1957.
