STATKRAFT GERMANY
At the beginning of 2009, Statkraft took over the Emden power plant site, located in Lower Saxony, from E.ON. The site was built in 1954 and at present operates as a gas power plant, a biomass cogeneration plant as well as an apprenticeship training position. In total, 55 workers ensure an environmental-friendly power production at the Emden site.The combined cycle power plant was commissioned in 1972 and has a generating capacity of approximately 450 MW. In order to achieve higher efficiency the plant operates by combining gas and steam turbines. Exhaust produced by burning gas in combination with compressed air turns the gas turbine. The remaining heat of approximately 450 °C in the gas turbine exhaust is used to generate steam which drives a steam turbine. In this way, two power sources drive the generator, which ultimately produces electricity. The combined plant has a net efficiency of 42 %.
