ZOO: Latgales Zoo is small municipal Zoo developed especially for ecological education of children.
Small animals are living here in original indoor jungles: turtles, birds, snakes, fishes, monkeys, caimans, insects etc. All these animals and are living in a zooculture for many generations and are domesticated (pets), no any animal is caught in wild!

EDUCATION: The Zoo offers special thematic excursions (African animals, Rare animals, Animals - fishermen, Democracy in animals, Family in animals, and many others).

NATURE CONSERVATION: The Zoo realizes many significant nature conservation actions. The target species are rare Latvian Bombina bombina and Emys orbicularis. Emys orbicularis is bred and kept in zooculture since 1984, in 2014 for the first time in Latvia 42 young adult turtles were released in wild in Silenes nature park Natura2000 (Project LIFE-HerpetoLatvia). Some thousands young Bombina bombina were released in Katriniski and Strauti Natura2000 microreseves.

RESEARCHES: Employers of the Zoo have 5 Doctor degrees in Biology and Pedagogy, they participate in scientific projects in a cooperation with Daugavpils university and have more than 60 target publications.
