Craigellachie Bridge

United Kingdom / Scotland / Rothes /

Craigellachie Bridge was built between 1812-14 to the design of Thomas Telford, one of the most influential civil engineers of his time. It is the oldest surviving cast-iron bridge in Scotland and the oldest one anywhere designed by Telford, though parts of it were replaced in a mid-1960s renovation. Castellated granite abutments support the bridge's single arch and provide great contrast to the delicate lattice work of the spandrels.
