Joe Slovo High Density Social Housing - 2006 (Cape Town)

Joe Slovo (named after the late leader of the SA Communist Party) is a residential development consisting of 705 residential units in two and three storey blocks. The development is structured around a system of public spaces, linked by roads that are pedestrian prioritized. The range of social spaces between the buildings are the main focus of the layout, with buildings always overlooking roads and public spaces and taking direct access off those spaces. Parking for cars are limited, as the intention is to encourage the use of public transport. The development is very central to the City, and in close proximity to public transportation routes, schools, work opportunities, etc.
