Originally Skyline passed right through where the church is today, and connected just below the intersection into 10th street, which at one time ran continuance till it reconnects with Skyline again at 2nd Ave West. However the church, built in 1965, caused the necessity of rerouting Skyline to where it is today. The church was designed by renowned architect, Pietro Belluschi.

The Church's parking lot is a popular spot for photographers and sightseers as provides a stunning view over Lake Superior and the surrounding area.
