A unit of the Royal Artillery, known as the Scottish Gunners – trained to deliver a vast amount of the Army's firepower in support of Infantry, armoured and air operations.105 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) is the only Territorial Army Gunner Regiment in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is equipped with the L118 Light Gun and has the honour of firing Royal Salutes in at Castles in Edinburgh, Stirling and Belfast.

The Battery is based in three locations: Arbroath, Kirkcaldy and Lerwick. The Highland Battery is now the only Artillery unit north of the Forth. With a remarkable history, it is a great honour that the Battery is the only one remaining after over 230 years of unbroken service. Recruiting soldiers mainly from Angus, Fife and the Shetland Islands.
