Erected in 1907 in the context of completing the port of Zeebrugge which a new marking of the port channel required.
This 'Big lighthouse' (as it is to be translated from Dutch) was one of the first structures in reinforced concrete on the Belgium coast.
The lighthouse was spared when in 1918 the main installations of the port were blown up by the retreating Germans.
The light was Extinguished during both World Wars and finally in 1983.
