The Yanburu Seawater Pumped Storage Power Station is the first pumped storage power plant to use the ocean as lower storage. This requires the facility to utilize specialized equipment that can handle both seawater and the sea life. The facility produces 30 megawatts of power and is controlled remotely by the Ishigawa Coal-Fired Power Plant.
