office building, town hall

This elaborate building is full of history, yet currently has no official name. Originally built 1846-1847 as Glasgow Academy, it was designed by the architect Charles Wilson in elaborate Italian Palazzo style central block with pavilions. Glasgow Academy later moved to its present site in Kelvinside, and the old building was converted into offices for government use – being named Strathclyde House. Like many offices in the area it is now the home of Glasgow City Council departments, and that of the traffic control system for the whole city.
