Ekolsund has a long and brilliant royal history. It was owned by King Gustav Vasa in the 1500s, then Johan III, Gustav II Adolf and Gustav III. It was Gustav III's favorite castle, and here he spent much of his life in the 1700s. Both South and North Castle was built in the 1600s.
