  • The US Army Composite Service Group (USA/CSG) sponsored my Soap Box Derby car in 1971, I took 2nd place on the island. Would truly enjoy seeing the large hillside between what was "upper" and "lower" base again, spent many times exploring between 1970 and 1972. Camp Chinen was a great place for a young person back then, I know it's all golf courses today -- I guess it's still being enjoyed. Matt K.
  • Matt, I served on Chinen from March 1973 until May 1974. I was with the 441st Military Intelligence Detachment. the 441st MID was attached to the 1st Special Forces Group, Okinawa. My wife and I visited Okinawa in March 2017. We took a tour of the Chinen area through the Information, Tickets & Travel(ITT) office on Kadena. We could not get on base because it is now a Japanese golf course. We were able to to view Camp Chinen from surrounding hills. Sadly, their seemed to be no buildings or houses remaining.
  • Randy, Took me a minute to connect your name to the faces I remember, but it came. 1973- 1974, Camp Chinen, 441st - Maj. Adams, Cpt.(s) Tom, Ritenour, and Nelson. TJ, B. Steppe... living in quanset huts burried below the golf course grass. I remember you had great hair, curly even through your military haircut; humidity? We killed free time playing jungle rules volleyball. Camp Chinen, wow. Wish you well, Black Bart
  • Matt Kelly, my old neighbor. I remember your SBD car very well--especially riding it down Mr. Vance's driveway and into the bushes with Joe standing on the rear axle. Robert Jackson
